A-C-T : From Burnout to Brilliance- The Secret to Sustainable Motivation

Here comes the A-C-T Blog! Here I give you an Awe moment from research or own experience, a Citation supporting the topic and a Take away for you to ponder on.

Awe Moment

Imagine walking through a vast desert, the relentless sun beating down, every step heavier than the last. You’re burnt out and frustrated, your energy depleted and motivation buried beneath exhaustion. Yet deep within, there’s a flicker—an unshakeable fire that refuses to be extinguished.
In this moment of sheer fatigue, you uncover a profound truth: true motivation isn’t about constant energy, but the everlasting flame within.

Most of us have experienced this feeling, maybe not in a desert but of having day-to-day responsibilities and battling to find creative mind-space, energy and time for our own dreams, constantly at the back of our mind. It’s time to wake up the fire deep inside, the hunger of wanting your dreams to come true and make it happen!

“You can motivate by fear, and you can motivate by reward. But both those methods are only temporary.
The only lasting thing is self motivation.”

Homer Rice

Takeaway

The starting point in achieving your dreams, is to have clearly defined goals and actions of what you need to do to achieve them. After that, the next steps are clear: consistency and discipline. Yet staying consistent and actually doing what you’ve set out to do, often gets hindered by our motivation.

When it comes to our dreams, we have them for a reason. Something about those dreams excites or fulfils us for whatever reason. Dig deep into that reason and remember, that although the daily actions to reach those goals may not scream what your dream is at the beginning of your journey, you need to keep yourself reminded of the end goal. Only this way can you sustain the deep desire and imagination of reaching that dream and staying intrinsically motivated.

However, there could come a point where extrinsic motivation comes in handy. The truth is everyone is different and on days when internal motivation doesn’t work, external rewards can help drive us to perform the tasks we know we should do, even when we don’t want to do them.

The next time you struggle with taking action towards your goal, imagine achieving the goal already. How does it make you feel?
Use that to re-awaken the fire inside you.

For the days when you need that extra push.
What external reward would allow you to push through temporarily?
